Well people so far BattleField 2 is a no go on the Linux OS...Many users on the M$ side are already complaining about corrupt textures and or missing textures. Reason for that is BF2 requires the LATEST Nvidia drivers (76.64) ..
Battefield 2 also requires Pixel Shader 1.4 ....Currently Point2Play / Cedega only supports Pixel Shader 1.3 . So without a patch we're not going anywhere anytime soon!

I can't even run the demo installer. It complains it doesn't have Administrator privs. WTH? Is there a way to flag cedega to run an EXE under Administrator privs?

Well you can get it installed fine...Just set Cedega/P2P to WinXP for your installation. But once you try and run it you'll get an error if you run it in console. Also if you just run it from P2P you'll just see a black screen flash in front of you for about 1/2 a second.
Now I gotta find somebody to help me with my nvidia drivers...the 7174 jacked my games up. The guy at BFG said the 7664 drivers should fix it.

For the n00bs out there, as myself, choosing to use command line cedega for no apparent reason, the command is:
cedega -winver winxp directory_Name/Battlefield_2_Demo.exe

Congradulations! You have learned the command to install 600megs of something onto your HD...lol...lighten up I'm kidding!
Yes you can install the demo.....But it WILL NOT RUN... Cedega/Point2Play needs Pixel Shader 1.4 support before it will ever work.
And if you have an Nvidia TI card or an ATI Radeon 8500 and below the game will not work either! So be advised now.
It may be a a week or so before TransGaming releases a fix for this...could even be longer. No one knows for sure.

In the following post they explain how they got BF2 running on a GF4TI card. This should also mean that they have only pixel shader 1.3 available? This should then also be possible to do with the latest Cedega. Can anyone here test this before I go and buy a game myself?

Seems like it doesn't work....The post clear states it. That sucks I was going to try it my self. I went out and got the game already.
Cedega/P2P only supports Pixel Shader 1.3 .. 1.4 is required from what I was reading...thats kinda stupid seeing how no one upgrades thier computer every year or so.
www.TransGaming.com may have it working in a month or so...they won't reply and tell us when it will be working...

You guys should check the game DB and the cedega forums before buying stuff. Sorry to say but a game as big as BF2 just coming out is surely not going to work on Cedega right away. Right now they are working on that pixel shader from what I've picked up at their forums. On the other hand I don't see support for this game in Linux ( through ) Cedega for quite a couple of months. If EA comes out with a port for it, that would be even Nicer. How ever I'm buying a 7800GTX and it comes pre-bundled with it, so I'll mess around with it and tell you guys how it goes :P
*EDIT* I just checked out the trailers and let me say that this game just left me in aww.
Dam cedega developers better hurry the hell up and make this playable in Linux!!!!

Sorry for that, didn't read further down in the thread. Although I gave a tiny hope, I didn't gave any certification that it should work.
The good news is that BF2 is high up on Transgamings list and the new pixel shader is prioritized. A good chance is that BF2 will be on their poster when the new version arrives.

It'll be running soon. Personally I don't care if its on TransGaming list of games or not.. If I have to reboot back to Windows thats what I do.
I'm still having to do that to make maps for CS 1.6 and CS:Source.
I give them at least another month before it gets running on cedega. But the game didn't blow me away or anything so doesn't matter to me when they get it going.

Then it won't be playable with a GeForce 4 Ti, but can be with a Radeon 9000 Pro! But I like my GeForce 4 Ti better, because the Radeon 9000 video cards are often slower!

If you look on the www.transgaming.org/forums (http://www.transgaming.org/forums) you'll find a patch for that... This guy came up with a texture converter for the TI cards and such.

Sorry if I'm talking bollards but lots of my mates are playing BF2 (on winxp) and apparently the game doesn't need pixel shader 1.4, but the demo does - the game only needs pixel shader 1.3.
I don't game though so I may be talking out of my ****.

You might not. It does. It's ironic that they use Linux on their servers. Recommend their hots to run Linux, but then again they can't even make a quick port or/installer for their Linux community. It's quite the bummer.
Anyhow we need to wait and hope the PS3 does have Linux installed on it. Because this is going to take Linux to a public level. I know most of you have to own an Ps2, and with a PS3 and Linux on it, I don't think their could be anything bettter.
Let's just hope that cedega makes another release. They just released Guild Wars with cedega 4.4.0, hope that 4.5.0 is with BF 2

I agree, even battlefield 1942 had a linux server. I feel like it's a slap in the face of people who use GNU/Linux as a desktop. It's like they are saying, "We support the server function, but screw all you who use GNU/Linux on the desktop."

Most games use Linux servers. But after disscussing this with some friends , the publishers/makers see no profit in making games for Linux. Since Linux isnt't on that many desktops ( or so they think ). But pretty much is that they don't see a profit in Linux, so they don't bother. Which I think if you are going to use Linux servers just put a linux client out for the games, for those of us that do USE linux as their desktop.
I think people will notice Linux more when the PS3 comes out. Since Linux is goign to be the OS on that extra hdd attachment. Then people will know what Linux is about, Linux has already conquered the server world. In a few years it will be the Desktop. I can almost count on it. IF it doesn't then it's going to be up there with Windows.

How about getting Halif-life 2 / CS:S to work 100% in Cedega first. I still have no DX9 love for my Half-Life 2. And it runs crappier on DX8 on my machine than DX9 in Windows. :(
