Hi,

I only just now discovered the Ubuntu podcast forum. It doesn't seem busy, but I'm sure like spirits hang out here.

I only just switched over to Ubuntu over the past three weeks and I have been keen to see what it offered in way of audio and podcasting.

My setup

I'm a long time Audacity user but haven't yet worked out how to get the lame file hooked up with the platform. But I'm sure I'll solve the puzzle...

I run iPodder/Lemon as my catcher and have always done so....

I was a bit concerned about my player options but I think Amarok is probably the best player I've used -- ever. It's a very poor podcatcher as the feeds when listed as podcasts display script and not titles. However, using playlists and files/folder attributes its very easy to run and contiol your podcast listening. And Amarok has direct DELETE. Love it! No fiddly business where you can't rid yourself of a podcast episode once you've had a listen. Very much better than iTunes....

While I used to record on an iRiver ftp 700 -- I have switched to a Sony HiMD mini disc. Unfortunately, and so typical of Sony, the upload program -- SonicStage -- isn't friendly with Linux --so I'm still using XP on another computer for that interface....[I''d love to hear from other MD users]

I don't record on the PC directly -- primarily because of sound floor issues, and my own out and about recording preferences....

I'll find a way to network the computers as I'm not sure how I'm set up in way of "double boot". I guess my Windows program is still somewhere inside this computer....

I use ODEO as my archive for Mp3 uploads and employ their flash players. I like the bit where it's free. I used to use Our Media but that platform is so temperamental(sorry OM)...

When I do interviews I had preferred to use recording direct from an analogue speaker phone with two mics. It gives more more control and assurance feedback that I am actulaly getting the sound recorded. But my phone is playing up this month.

I use Blogger to house my podcasts links and kick off with the feed thing.

I've only been on Ubuntu for less than three weeks and I'm very impressed--and if it wasn't for the SonicStage issue I'd go cold turkey off Windows...

While I've got your attention --c an anyone walk me through the way to incorporate LAME into Audacity on Ubuntu Dapper? I cannot get the Audacity preference to find the required LAME file in my Ubuntu files and I'm not even sure that I've downloaded the correct LAME out of the 20 or so I was offered through a Package search. On WINDOWS you simply move LAME into the Audacity folder and the program more or less does the rest. Ubuntu isn't so self evident.

So I need to ask which Lame do I download/install? Then what happens?

Done it! What a run around! I loaded and linked to my lame folder. Inn Windows it takes 3 minutes. On Ubuntu it's major ask! But the the first time I negotiated the Lame thing I was at sixes and sevens. So long as in the end I get to do it right.

Then Audacity froze and I had to uninstall. Then it refused to install again. This sent me on a merry chase... through Google and the forums...But en route I found Jokosher and like the cut of its jib and am now installing that.

The latest version of Jokosher should be out very soon...

I am very surprized how sophisticated audio tools are on Ubuntu. I have no great demands from an editor so long as it edits and offers good gain control while also offering a save to Mp3.

I plan not to use dual boot so I can access the latest version of Sonic Stage. Instead I may try to network two computers -- the one running on XP (with SS) and the other on Ubuntu. with these other tools.
