I am suprised epiphany isn't on the list. I believe more people on the forums use it than opera.
I use firefox myself.

Epiphany is great for older machines, things when you need lots of tabs. I use it sometimes because it uses WAY less resources than Firefox. I love the way Firefox looks and behaves but when you start leaning on it (say 10+ tabs with nested tables) life starts to slow down. Also I sometimes use IE in Ubuntu because it is harmless (it too renders pages faster than Firefox) and its like driving a bumper car. Yet, my all time favorite program (or as I call it "the reason to have a Pentium 4") is Firefox.

I voted Firefox - the obvious choice. However, I only see 3 real alternatives up there in the options. What's up with that??? I gotta have more browser alternatives on Linux. I need more cowbells. I got a fever, and the prescription is more cowbells.

Opera :-\" is my first choice and have been for many years, in both win and *nix.
It simply works as I want it to , although I have nothing against Firefox  (great extension resources) or Epiphany  , they are great, I also have IE [-X ](*,) installed with wine as fake win since I sometimes build webpages and need to test the finished pages.

I only liked Opera when I had never tried a mozilla variant. It's ok, but not up-to-snuff in my opinion. And I'm still dumbfounded that it's adware, unless you pay for it. It's a browser-- there are probably hundreds of browsers that are totally free, many of which are Free (as in freedom), and have no ads. That's why I can't use it except to test out web design changes.
I love firefox, but it can get a bit bloated sometimes, so I then use Epiphany or Galeon.
EDIT: SGC, you mind if I edit your poll to include Galeon and Epiphany?

Epiphany, it's HIG and it blends perfectly with my GNOME desktop - plus the translations are correct, unlike with firefox

I use Epiphany. It does everything I need it to and definitely feels lighter than Firefox. I do kinda miss adblock, but depriving some sites of their only way of covering their expenses is not cool IMO.

I'm surprised by the low popularity of Epiphany. It fits much better for Gnome than Firefox. Epiphany's faster, both in page loading and opening tabs. Epiphany integrates much better into Gnome: it uses Gnome's icon theme and detects Gnome default apps for different filetypes. Only thing better in Firefox is the vast selection of extensions, but most of the time I can live without them.

Even though I use Kubuntu, I installed Firefox. KHTML just doesn't work with enough sites for me, like Gmail. I know there is a mode in Gmail that will accept Konqueror, but changing settings in Gmail must be done in a fully supported browser. Firefox with the Plastikfox theme works well for me.

Reason: Better GNOME intergration & better looking fonts (at least for my computer).

Opera .. it is such a joy to use. I managed to pretty it up even though I don't have kde, and I find it much faster to use than firefox (which is my next browser of choice). I'll give epiphany a whirl, but I doubt its gonna move me from opera .. esp. since I don't like to relearn keyboard shortcuts. And opera is so customizable!

Opera (favourite) for daily browsing/forums - Fast rendering/loading

My first choice is firefox, I even have it installed in my work's pc (wich runs windows; when I said the word Linux to my boss, he answer "I'm not gonna waste more money in software"; I guess he didn't hear the part when I said it was FREE), and now I'm trying to get my mom to use it, that way I feel she won't have so many troubles with spyware adware, and those things.... Firefox is the very best.

June 13th, 2005, 09:54 PM
any browser with the mozilla engine should be as trustworthy as firefox, really. Obviously it's not going to be 100% the same, but it's all based on the same engine.

As I already use Konqueror as a general purpose document viewer it would be to bothersome to open a seperate application for websites. In case a website doesn't run I usually switch to Opera, which is also my default browser under Windows.

Firefox here. I really liked the old Mozilla Suite (in fact I used Seamonkey for while), but since this package is no longer default in anything I have I just got accustomed to Firefox (it is Mozilla's son after all).
I liked Opera a little in Windows (much better than IE) but did not like the adds so I quit using it in favor of Mozilla.

Forgot to mention about Internet Explorer 6, I installed it following the instructions of ie4linux and use it for compatibility with some sites (without the hassle of booting in Windows altogether).

Firefox all the way. I've even (surruptitiously) installed it on my works laptop since I much prefer it to any version of IE.
I've also tried (and liked) Epiphany, SeaMonkey and Konqueror. However ...I still prefer FF.

I'd go with Swiftfox, but I can't bring myself to entirely trust it because all it is is Firefox edited for speed (something that a Firefox user can do) without releasing the source. I mean, come on, Swiftfox isn't doing anything completely revolutionary, it's possible to mess with Firefox and get what Swiftfox does, and you KNOW EXACTLY what you did, and you know it won't do anything bad. So, I go with Firefox.
Just my 2 cents :p

Usually Firefox, when heavily in GTK I use Epiphany. In KDE, I try to get the feel for Konqueror, but it never really works out well. I also enjoy Opera, and I use a combo of Firefox/Safari on my Mac. Not to mention the browser testing I do in IE6 and 7 at the office.

Epiphany is very nice. The fact the history and bookmarks open new windows is a little annoying, but there is one major annoyance that keeps me away and that is the lack of a drop-drown address bar. I prefer to navigate with this rather than bookmarks, etc. But Epiphany does not include this simple feature. Why, I ask you, WHY!?
