I am looking to develop a java application on a handheld device. I am looking at devices that are large compared to phones or the average mobile device (around 200 Mb space, decent amount of ram)

Should I be using J2ME for this? I have been researching profiles and configurations for J2ME, and if I understand correctly, by choosing a certain profile / configuration, I am deciding how much of a subset of J2SE I am using for my J2ME JVM, is that correct?

How would I load an appropriate JVM onto a Linux Zaurus device or a Windows CE device?

It would be great to hear back from anybody who knows anything, I am very new to handheld devices!

OpenMoko http://openmoko.com/press/index.html is nice platform - completely open. Use apt-get to install new plugins :-) Check presentation (http://www.openmoko.com/files/OpenMoko_Amsterdam.pdf)

And also with Python bindings :-)
