i've been using krename (3.0.13-0ubuntu1) for a while now on kubuntu feisty. i have noticed that it often crashes when it finishes doing its thing. (often while using an undo script). has anyone else experienced this?
if so i am NOT gonna recommend this utility.
i had a nasty experience with krename today. i used "Overwrite Existing Files" with an Undo Script just in case. Well it decided for some reason it didn't like something this particular time and crashed part way into the process. so i fired it up again and used the undo script and it said all the files didn't exist any more! i've checked everywhere on my hdd for a temporary folder but afaict it doesn't exist. even when using the "Overwrite" option it should use a temporary folder to back up the files! now i've lost a grand total of 142 images!!! i've had them for years, but luckily i can find them again online. but it took me all those years off and on to collect them.
normally i use the option to copy them to another folder and then replace them manually afterward, but apparently (at least in my experience) the "Overwrite" option isn't safe.
i'm already looking for another one, i think i'll try gwenrename, hope it doesn't have this problem.

this was just a rant to get out my frustration, i know if it this was meant to get anything done i would have had to have posted on krename's forum, but as i said, this was just a rant...

I haven't had that exact experience, but I have lost precious files in the past, so I invested in an external hard drive, and I use rsync to back up my files every week. The backups take only a few seconds each, and they give me a lot of peace of mind.

Sorry for your loss!

i have experience with imaging hdds. but in this case i think your method would be preferable. i think i'll invest in the same in the future when i get the money....

I've never had t hat sort of trouble with krename, then again, I've never used the undo script, nor have I used the Overwrite option. The rest of the program seems stable enough ... so just avoid that doesn't work and file some bugs so it doesn't bite somebody else!

I have a similar problem. Not a disaster, but a pain. Krename crashes EVERY time I try to begin adding a new set of files, after processing a first batch. I don't use undo or overwrite. It's not a disaster, but means I have to restart Krename every time I process a directory.

Where would be the best place to post a bug? KDE or Ubuntu?
