View Full Version : daily i386 liveCD is too big?

I downloaded the i386 daily, but it's 702MB and won't fit on my 700MB CD-RW.

What's up with that?

It happens from time to time, just try again tomorrow or go back a few days to find one that is under 700MB.

You can still use rsync to save downloading the whole thing again.

Well, Ubuntu is 711 mb today. That's a Don't Fit. I tried DVD-RW a couple days, but the Ubuntu CD/DVD program won't erase DVD's, and DVD's are expensive.

So I'm doing Xubuntu and Kubuntu CD-RW Live, which do fit, on the several computers on our LAN. Ubuntu is installed on this one, and interestingly today's 48 updates were "not authenticated"?

General impression Xubuntu is missing some of the things I do, like copy files on the LAN, which can be added by installing Konqueror (huge!).

Kubuntu has so many alternatives it takes quite a while to figure out how to sort imported Bookmarks for example. And of course Konqueror doesn't do AOL Mail fixed by installing Firefox (not so huge but duplicate browsers).

Sure would help me test if Ubuntu "persistent" worked, since Ubuntu does both AOL Mail and LAN browsing as is. It's been busted since 10 February. And to boot that, other distro's like even little Puppy have a much more user friendly menu driven persistent capability. Just the thing to get more people to try Linux and work on Launchpad Bug #1.

Cheers, Jerry :(

The 20070408 (http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/20070408/) daily live CD now fits a 700MB CD.
