Jereme,

I'm looking forward to the new 7.04 edition. I was just curious if the CE with 7.04 will be released at the same time as the 7.04, or will there be a delay? If there is a delay, how much time do you think will take for the UCE 7.04 to be out? Don't want to pressure you, just curious. I don't mind waiting a little bit as that will give it time for the bugs to work out, if there are any. However I will download it and play with it as soon as released too. I like 'new' stuff. :) And enjoy the challenge of hacking out new territory. Thanks.

There will be a delay. I am not sure how long. It really depends on how smooth the conversion process takes. The first release of Ubuntu CE v3.0 (Feisty) will probably not included any changes from Ubuntu CE v2.2 (Edgy) except for the fact that it will be based on Feisty of course.

God Bless, Jereme

If you have Ubuntu CE Edgy installed, shouldn't a simple dist-upgrade of Ubuntu do the trick?

Yes, in theory it should. I have personally always had issues with doing a dist-upgrade.

This is true, and should work. I too have had problems with this in the past. If I do, I will make sure I back up first! :) I may give that a whirl. Thanks.

If you have your home folder on a separate partition, you run less risk of loosing important files (all your personal configuration files are also saved in there, as hidden files and folders).

I've only done a dist-upgrade once, from Breezy to Dapper, and everything went very smoothly, but I know that experience isn't shared by everyone.

I do have my /home folder on a separate partition for that reason, and learned a very valuable lesson. If you upgrade and don't like it, don't downgrade without completely overwriting your /home partition. I ended up with a real mess not being able to log into my home directory because the settings were for an upgraded version of Ubuntu, not the lower version that I went back too. I know, this should be obvious, but some of us have to learn the hard way. :) Thanks for the advice!

Just a heads up, I was just playing around a little bit, and decided to try the Beta version of Fiesty to see how it is. When I did the Upgrade via the official upgrade instructions it told me I don't have ubuntu-desktop or kubuntu-desktop or edubuntu-desktop installed, and they couldn't upgrade because they couldn't determine which desktop I was using. I had to install ubuntu-desktop in order to do the up-grade, which I assume will overwrite all my Christian Ubuntu artwork, and names. Which, I personally like on my computer as a designation that this is a Christian's computer with a Christian desktop on it. I wanted to give you the heads up, and anyone else that decides to try the upgrade, even after the official release.

Note 1:Ok, the update failed. I guess I will just wait for the regular release. It fell all apart over Dan's Guardian. It wanted to overwrite the config files, and I told it to keep the original ones. I don't know if that was the right answer, as it aborted the upgrade process, and said my system may be un-usable. It isn't, but I don't know now if it did update or not. I have a new kernel, but that is all I know. Still using edgy sources, so it didn't update that. Just noting this for anyone who may be interested in know about updating.

Note 2 Ok, I guess it did work. I checked my source list and it did say fiesty, I don't know why it didn't update before, I guess I needed to reboot, but thought I had done that. Oh well. It is done and seems to work.
