This is an information thread only. Please do not reply.

The Linux For clinics (LFC) team is a group of people who have come together with a common interest in health, medicine, humanity and free and open source software (FOSS).
Around the team, and essential to the work of the project, is a community of people with the same aims and ideals, especially that of aiding humanity on the basis of respect for humanity and the awareness that we are all human in relation to each other. This is the philosophy identified by the African word ubuntu.

The goals of the project can be divided into three sections:

I Software

To Create a GNU/Linux distribution

The aim here is to provide reliable clinical and laboratory practice software that is Integrated into the base system

Alterable to the specific needs of any particular user
Available to everyone, irrespective of nationality, race, creed or religion
To bring together in one reliable system the best available software. In a way that avoids problems with installation and use.The distribution and software is specifically aimed at medical users, and will be available to all who wish to use it.

To create software where it does not already exist

With the help of physicians and the community at large, specific software needs will be identified and incorporated into the project as more people become available to undertake the work.

This includes the creation of diagnostic software for use by conventional ‘western’ physicians and 'non-western’ physicians. The diagnostic software is intended to provide possible pathologies and treatments on the basis of patient data/symptoms.

II Education and Information Packages

All FOSS projects within the area of medicine, that we are aware of, focus on the creation of software. This project aims to create educational packages for as many areas of medicine as possible. These packages will cover both conventional western medicine and traditional medicine such as traditional Chinese medicine, homoeopathy, and so on.

III Social goals and aims

This is an open source project that seeks contact between the developers and the community. We feel that it is a necessary part of the project to have open communication between the developers and the community of users and supporters.

We believe that the project will benefit and be more responsive to the needs of the users if communication is maintained. Within this context the social goals of the project are:

To spread the philosophy of Humanity To Others (ubuntu)
All physicians and other interested users should have access to the benefits of the
project.
To bring the benefits of free and open source software to all users.
To treat all members and all users with respect.

All members of the LFC community forum, and all users of the products of the LFC project are worthy of respect for their individuality. All members and users are given the opportunity to work in areas of the project which they find interesting and enjoyable.
To distribute computers preinstalled with the LFC project distribution

Ultimately the project will take donations of computers on which the project’s distribution will be installed. These computers will then be donated to clinics and physicians throughout the world where they will be of most benefit. The means of distribution is most likely to be via existing aid agencies throughout the world.
We are aware of the fact that our goals are high, but we also have confidence that with dedication we will achieve this. We will keep you up to date on what we are up to and what the current status is by posting here.
