Well, first off let me explain why i put this here, i didnt really know what area to place this in, i originally thought the Hoary networking area but then again this isnt related with the OS i use. Ok my problem, right well i have 3 home computers all hooked up to the internet ( Being a 1mb adsl connection ) via a router ( Netgear dg834 adsl firewall router ). Now, at certain times of the day weird things happen, for instance my net kind of dies at around 9:45am every morning without fail, every computer in the house will loose its connection to the internet... all the windows machines that the other members of my family use bring up the annoying bubble saying the network cable is unplugged, and my linux machine just has the problem where no pages respond or nothing...

also at like 1am in the morning everyday also i always get signed out of Kopete ( and msn on another windows machine ) without fail, yet, i idle in a chat channel on IRC ( using konversation ) and i never seem to loose my connection to that, at the time i get signed out of kopete + msn i can still talk in the IRC channel so it would appear that my whole connection doesnt die, just that my kopete / msn disconnects me.. im thinking personally its the router as ive never encountered these problems before i brought it... so im just waiting on the firmware update to see if that helps... but its been in beta now for about 2 buggering months... is there anything else it could be? I

could also point out that i never had this problem until my ISP ( Internet Service Provider being BT 'British Telecom' ) upgraded my connection for free with no extra charge per month from 512 to 1mb... any ideas on anything else it could be? or is it definatly the router do you reckon?

Sounds like the router...might be worth waiting around the router when you usually lose connection and seeing if the lights blink off or you see it rebooting. Otherwise Id call your ISP about the issue (their still probably blame the router)...or alternatively find a friend with one and see if theirs do the same at your place.

I was having the same problems, with that exact router. It would disconnect at certain points of the day, and it really became bothersome. After I updated the firmware, everything started working fine.

Download the latest firmware update from the Netgear website. :)

Yeah they recently released a new firmware version and so far so good. After browsing the netgear support forum i found out that a hell of alot of other people with this model router had the exact same problem, they narrowed it down to being one of three things, the db readings on the line attenuation, the router firmware or possibly a damged router. But they all said its most likely one of the first two. But yeah all seems well after the firmware update. Lets hope it stays this way.
