My friend showed it to me earlier, he Twitters. And I have to be honest with you. When he showed it to me, I thought it was the silliest thing in the world. If I'm going to txt, I'm at least going to txt to SOMEbody, ya?

Yes I do, and no i don't think it's entirely silly. A nice way social networking tool. The only one I found for UBuntu is this:
http://philwilson.org/blog/2007/03/post-to-twitter-from-ubuntu-deskbar.html
Being an Ubuntu newbie, it looks a little daunting to install it but I shall try
Any other suggestions welcome

I made an easier version of that one, it doesn't require any libs I think (works with standart python stuff)
here is it

Hope it's useful to you

No. I don't really have the desire to send out short generic messages to all my friends at the same time. Maybe if there was a way to set it up so your message only went out to a certain group of friends(there might be I don't know anything about it besides what their homepage says). In general though I think my life is way too dull and boring to need such a system.

Blocked at work.

Yep. At first it doesn't make sense but after a while it's addictive. Even if you don't get a lot of followers it's fun to just post a quick thought every once in a while. like a lazy man's blog.

My Friends and I use Firefox's Shareaholic plugin to twit interesting articles we find and read, it's kinda handy when you use it in conjunction with the twitter plugin on pidgin. Before that it was emailing everything...But I don't feel the need to post my every move on it....

I rather talk physically to my friends, than this "social networking -- are you connected -- web2.0 " stuff...
It gives me the creeps that people just wanna be heard all the time..what's it good for?? People in general don't say interesting stuff all the time.

NOFI ofcourse to anybody who in fact has a practical use for this stuff...

April 23rd, 2009, 02:26 AM
Yes, but I do agree that it's a bit silly but useful. I was sceptical at first, but it's a fast way of showing what you're doing especially since I'm not the social type myself.

It mainly shows that I'm alive for those who cares, haha!

April 23rd, 2009, 04:37 AM
if my friends start using Twitter, I will be quite upset.

I have enough accounts and such to check already.

Facebook does everything twitter does and more. there is no point if you already have facebook, which I, and 95% of my friends do.

billgoldberg
April 23rd, 2009, 04:39 AM
No.

I'm not into that whole social web 2.0 thing.

Same reason I don't use facebook, myspace, ...

I have friends enough in real life.

If you use it like a stock ticker (cnn breaking news, Linux Journal, and so on), I can see it might be useful. Otherwise, it is about people eating or listening to music.

I have an account, but I never use it. I don't care about anybody's tweets nor do I really have anything of import to tell everyone I know as well as any anonymous stranger about.

I think it's a great social networking tool but I just don't need to be that involved in social networking, myself.

To me, it just seems like texting on a grande scale.

No, I do not.

However, should you ever find yourself overwhelmed with a burning curiosity about exactly what I'm doing at any particular moment in time, by ALL means, please feel free to email me for a complete, and comprehensive, update.

I'm quite sure the sundry and sordid details of my daily commute, soul-crushing employment, and/or vigorous masturbatory habits, will not disappoint!

I read 3 feeds from game developers. it's a good way to get information about newly released media and updates.

I do not have an account though. nobody would care about what I'm doing. :KS
