Does anyone know of free CAD software for Linux along the lines of TurboCAD? I need software to do general 2D and 3D mechanical drawings.

Hi, I know of only QCAD but that is only 2d in terms of drawing. There are in the repositories also sagcad and varkon that I could find (general cad that is).
I did see that TurboCAD will work via wine though.
Wish could help more.

As far as I'm aware VariCAD (http://www.varicad.com) is the top linux supporting CAD program.

Nstoker, what version of Turbocad are you using with wine?
I've never been able to get any later version going with wine than the old 2D version 4 Learning Edition.
Are you running a 3D version?

Hi,
I'm trying to get TurboCAD v11.2 running under Wine - do you know anyone who has been successful in this?
Thanks

Allen,
Nope.
That's why I queried the last poster about what version he was using. But, no answer.:(
It is definitely possible to runTurbocad Learning Edition Version 4, (2D) but as far as I know, no one has been able to run later 3d Versions of TurboCad (or DesignCAD foir that matter) under current Wine versions.
Seem like all the activity is in making Wine run better graphics for gamers, rather than CAD graphics. They post a lot more bug reports than CADers do!
I spent a lot of time trying to make Turbo and Design cads work, even as a Wine db maiintainer, and finally threw in the towel
Both CADs run fine under VMWare Player running, in my case a Win98SE virtual machine. I'm sure it would work with other Win OS as well.
You might want to check out what I did here:

by the way, VMWare tools are absolutely necessary for good graphics and performance, and are now available as open source.
