Hello.
I recently posted a thread here called "Eyecandy forum?", calling for a division between topics on desktop functionality and applications on one hand and on eyecandy-topics on the other. The result was that this was taken up in the Forum Council, and a new forum, "Desktop Effects & Customization" was created. The original thread got merged with two earlier threads, see http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=375998 .
Now that this change has been made, I think a new, more descriptive name for the "general" desktop forum would be in order. My suggestion for naming these two forums is the following:
"Desktop Effects & Customization" - the looks: eyecandy, (IMO) theming etc. (The current name is spot on.)
"Desktop Environments & Applications - everyday use: general applications, office applications, configuring what the mouse buttons do, etc. (The questions on applications rightly get asked here, so I think it wouldn't hurt to name it in the forum title too.)
In addition we still have "Multimedia & Video" for the audio & video applications related topics.
