Yes, he did, I also came in to see what is with .0.2 rereleased ?
I admit did not hear about .3 not that I have to notice every major release of FF. ;)
I check what's new.

Hi;
Sorry for the really dumb question, ..but at least it will be an easy one. ;-)

I've downloaded Firefox-2.0.0.3.tar.gz to my desktop. Now how do I install it?
Do I extract the file, then double-click something inside? If so, WHICH file/folder?
Do I need to use the Ubuntu Terminal to install the Firefox update?
I feel stupid for asking such a basic question, but I've been using winders soo long that my brain has frozen up.

(Please use small words, and assume I don't know anything.)

Thanks!!!!

Wow, that was quick. They just released 2.0.0.2 a few weeks ago.

breaddog, just wait a couple days, the update will come down through the update manager once they get put into the repos.

Thanks.

...what's a repo?
Is the update manager part of Firefox, or Ubuntu?

I am particularly curious because Firefox on Windows asked me to update to 2.0.0.2 a couple weeks ago. But when I had Firefox on Ubuntu "check for Updates" it still said i was current (and still current) with 1.5.0.10.

thanks!

I take it then that you're using Dapper. A repo is short for repository and that's were all of the updates come from. The update manager is part of Ubuntu. The Debian builds of Firefox have the updates through Firefox disabled so they're handled by the update manager. If you want the latest version of Firefox you can use this guide
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FirefoxNewVersion Just make sure you put in 2.0.0.3 instead of 2.0.0.1. The guide hasn't been updated since that release.
which is what I did on Dapper because the Firefox 1.5x series is getting way too out of date for me.

Anyone made a deb package yet?

I want it. The devs are very slow.

Thanks

That probably wouldn't be the best thing to do. Just be patient. The last update was in the repos within 2 days. Just relax and have some popcorn in the meantime:popcorn:

Install the Mozilla version using this script (http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/firefox). That version is self-updating. When a new release comes out, launch it with the command gksudo firefox do the update, then launch it normally afterwards.

RAV TUX told me to use aysui's script.

The script is flawless.

I had to use sudo ./installnewfirefox and it worked like a charm!

Cheers!

Didn't have to. just clicked on fx's icon on the panel.

Strictly speaking, it's not my script. It was developed by nanotube (another forum member here), but I have some instructions for it on my website--that's all.

Glad it worked out for you.

2.0.0.3 is one minor security fix and a bunch of vista fixes. That is all there is to the upgrade.

Wow, that was darn nice of the firefox crew to put out the Vista fixes for Microsoft. So what does the fix for Vista do, roll back to XP?

one security fix... and its low priority lol

and a lot of windows API's changed with vista so a lot of programs need to be updated... another reason to never get the latest windows version right after it is released
