Hello All,

Please move this post if it is in the wrong place.

My question is... Is there any solid reference materials for running ubuntu 6.06 server from the command line? The problem is that most reference material is either for an outdated or different OS or it just gives you what is available in the man pages. I'd like to see examples of the command and then what the command line equivalent.

Example using cp or mv to move or copy a directory to another location. man mv and man cp only give you the basic command structure and it is not necessarily obvious what needs to be used.

Are there any concise and up to date reference on the command line as used by ubuntu 6.06?

Thank you,

For the basic Unix/Linux commands, there is so little difference that to focus on one distribution or the other is pointless. Learn the basics, and they will apply to any *nix system, with only minor (and occasionally annoying) differences.

Here's some intro stuff for you:

Go to the Coursework section, review the notes week by week, doing the homework. Answers are available too (but don't peek!). There are more courses too if you want.

The Linux Administration Handbook looks pretty good for the more in-depth stuff.
