Alright so I used Envy from http://www.albertomilone.com/nvidia_scripts1.html to automatically configure my ATI 9600 video card for Beryl. I don't know if this was nessicarily the correct thing to do or if it actually helped me or not. But then I followed these instructions http://lhansen.blogspot.com/2006/10/3d-desktop-beryl-and-xgl-on-ubuntu-edgy.html to install Beryl.

Now it sort of works, when I log into an XGL session everything is cool but as soon as I start the Beryl Manager everything goes white.

If I use the mouse command I can move the desktop cube around and see 4 sides of white and the top and bottom are the Beryl ruby icon. I feel like I am so close to have it working.

Why is it all white, and what can I do about it?

Note:
I am running a Pentium 4 - 1.8 MHz - 512 RAM - Ubuntu Edgy 6.10 and an ATI Radeon 9600 card.

here's how i fixed it on my radeon 9600xt:
right click on beryl-manager, go to advanced beryl options, rendering path, and then choose "copy"

that did the trick for me.

if that doesn't work, look at what some people did here (http://forum.beryl-project.org/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=3756)

cheers,
