I'm trying to install Edgy on my macbook but can't even get the live cd to boot (I pressed "C" during boot up). For my live cd I burned the ISO for "desktop and laptop PCs". Is that the right version? I can't imagine what else the problem might be.

that should be correct... you might look into installing rEFIt first... it will make life easier. It will detect all the bootable partitions (including CD) on your system, and also has the tools to sync the gpt and mbr tables which will be needed to install ubuntu.

So 'c' should be pressed instead of 'alt/option' to launch the live cd? I'm just trying to get my tidbits straight.

holding 'c' should boot a cd...
alt/option should bring up a choice of what partition to boot though. (if I remember right)I haven't used Apple for very long. Either should work.
If you install rEFIt then you will get a menu everytime that defaults to the OSX install.
