yeah, that's clearly a bug. Whoever wrote that ping program really f*ck'd up. It's not intuitive at all, what with the command line and all that cryptic output. I hope the developers are reading this. And someone should write a GUI for this. I hope they'll put that in Feisty+1. I mean, even Windows can do that, why can't ubuntu handle it. This is supposed to be "For Human Beings' and they can't even do a decent ping pong. Ubuntu is never going to dominate the desktop if they can't get a simple ping pong right.
BTW, which ubuntu are you using ? On mine, i get this :

=D> You answered & coded :KS :!: a universal truth. So as in parts
of the earth where "chatter" seems eternal and which shall remain
unnamed for our purposes, a solution could be reached by truce or pact.
Here's what I propose to the OP, and then we would need a moderator
to step in as a "notary public."
The answer is a number that the guesser can explain. If the
responder states an incorrect number, I'll answer "no" to his/her
1st attempt, silence permitted for follow up trials. If the answer is
correct, then I'll ask "why." If that reply is correct, I'll post the last
stanza of the poem if it hasn't been guessed already. Then the
moderator can declare that person the "winner." Each responder
submitting the number after the "why" reply has their part B answer
responded to in the order their 1st correct # post appears. The OP can
intervene at any time if he would like me to drop a hint.

Is there a new avenue set forth to address a classic impasse? New avenue ? Whats wrong with the old one ? The Unix Way ? It has proven its value for decades. And there is no impasse, open source will always make it possible to fork. You said it youself :

That's what I meant by own ... degree for item 1, I think it's less than encryption but perhaps not by much.
Item 2, to avoid a faith based comparison, is like picking up marbles and leaving like an unhappy camper if you mean splitting the thread.
If we can see that this is perpetual, then we accept the value of that, or we find a way to "enhance" or abbreviate it for rote portions. When me and my now spouse drive long cross country trips, the passenger(s) can do crossword puzzles, etc. along the way. If it's just me and him, we have left rentals at major city airports to skip some of the sightseeing by air travel instead. Though the higher math made me shudder in my later high school years, you can bet I cherished ... when answering series equations with that summation symbol!

Wrong.
This thread doen't compete with other threads, so you can't make it win any compitition. There's no "fewest posts possible" requirement that I know of. I think you should go back and read the OP + some foolow up posts. Meybe just re-read the whole thread.
Meanwhile, I'll hold this spot - as it was meant to be.
You know, that's not a bad idea... I'll be back later.

Thanks. It might be a while as there are a lot of posts and my bandwidth isn't the greatest (RoadRunner in da hizzouse). I promise, though, that I'll be back when I'm done.

Great, I'll be right over.
With that said, I'll be busy following xyz around and may not be able to stop by this thread for a while. Unless Switzerland has nice cybercafes... I guess I'll find out :D

You'll find nice cafés but that doesn't mean you'll have the last word...even in Switzerland.

To get the last word you need to say it and then crack the forums and change it so that it appears on the last page.

Yes, that is correct. But you should also be aware that, in English:
their != there != they're
:D
(You should have used the second one. ;))
Oh yeah, word.

ah, finally, a post in the spirit of what this thread was meant to be : gattering the nit-picking, spelling correcting, grammar obsessed know-it-alls and let them fight over getting the last word.
And I suppose you're right about the their != there != they're.
It's kinda weird. My brain knows the difference, but my fingers make the mistake and my eyes don't see it. I've noticed I write 'your' where it should be ' you're ', there in stead of they're, ... - even in this sentence, I first wrote "wright", then "corrected it to 'right', while it could only be "write". Weird.

At least you have taken the time to learn another language. (assuming that English isn't your native language) That's more than most native English speakers will ever do. (I can order beer and ask for directions to the restroom in two other languages, but that's pretty much my limit ;))

Don't underestimate the power of ordering beer in different languages. That is pretty important :) Cerveza, birra, øl, pilsner, piwo and the list go on and on :)
Edit : When where talking beer on an open source forum. Check out some open source beer :) : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vores_%C3%98l

Quite right, but don't forget to learn how to ask for the location of the restroom... the one inevitably leads to the other. :D

I used to learn the words for "beer", "bread", and "cheese" in the language of every country I travelled to. Kinda like a 'survival vocabulary'.
As for the location of the restroom, yes, that's important too, but often it's easier to look for the signs than to try and ask in a foreign language - although that may depend on the number of beers.

I realize that but this is an English forum....besides this very same alphabet is used by millions of people in the world.
But I like Scandinavian people so I'll just say I have the last letter in...parts of the world; however, I do have the last letters on ubuntuforums!

This is an international forum.
The alphabet you're referring to isn't even used by half of the people in the world.
Besides, this thread is not about alphabets

Well, it was fun, but we have descended further into pettiness and bickering, and with this last exchange, I'm going to close the thread.
I got the last word.
