I was just posting in the hope someone whos got this working glances at it. I am trying to get Emperor Rise of the Middle Kingdom working in ubutntu according to wine app database it plays fine but i get a black screen after installing it and running it through wine, sound still plays and if i click around enough i can click menus etc. If anyone out there has had this problem n sorted it or not could you please post back just to put my mind at rest. The game is quite addictive and it takes me away from my linux time :(

Sorry I may not be much help as the game works for me without problems. (OK except from some gliches of the sound). But do you have working 3d on the linux machin you are trying to install emperor rmk? Do you have wine set up correctly? Did you run winecfg before you started to install the game (you have to run it at least once before starting to use wine)

hope it helps
good luck it is a really good game

yea i have been using wine fine to run jedi knight academy i am using a repo for wine for the bleeding edge packages. I am using edgy and beryl, although i have tried turning off beryl but it still doesnt change anything.

after a bit of tinkering i have managed to get it working the main problem was that i was running beryl at the same time, wish itd run while still using beryl though. I dont understand why it crashes if i run it while using beryl as jedi knight academy runs fine while using beryl. Oh well atleast now i dont have to reboot all the time. Thanks for the help edemark

I am happy that it works for yua at last as it is a really nice game.
I personally do not have beryl or xgl so i would have never thought that it may causes problem (is good to know though as slowly i will give up my dapper for festy so i will have xgl stuff). You may consider creating a separate user for playing or you might use just a wm and not a dektop environment to play let say fluxbox. So you do not have to trouble with starting and stopping beryl.

good luck
