View Full Version : Is 6.10 Server (Xubuntu) tight off CD?

I would like to know if Xubunu 6.06 server is stable and secure off the CD or should I install all updates listed in Synaptic with "main" and "restricted" repos, to date? As well, say I update my machine fully, where all updates listed under "Installed (upgradable)" are applied - nothing listed. If a new update comes out, how do I find out what the update addresses before I install it? I would like to know if the update is critical, fixes a bug, patches a security hole, or adds a new feature.

There have been many, many security updates since the CDs where published. it's always a good idea to update as soon as you have finished your installation.

To see what bugs and security issues are addresses by any give update, you can use the apt-listbugs package .

There are many ways to automate / delay / check updates, you may also search Debian resources for that. An example:
