View Full Version : How do I make the BOINC client start up?

I'm running Kubuntu Edgy Eft.

I mean, I can start it up with the Konsole, but what I want to do is run the core client without the console program. I don't want Konsole there all the time...but everytime I run boinc, then try to close Konsole, boinc disappears too. Can someone help me rectify this problem?

The reason I'm asking this is because I have KBoincMgr but it won't instigate any boinc processes.

there is a gui client for gnome (maybe KDE) which i used before. think it is like boinc-client.
Try use adept manager or sympatic and search for that.

It will give u a similar client to the one they produce for windows.

Not sure why u were saying KBoincMgr doesn't integrate 'cause i managed to use it just by installing.

I don't see KBoincMgr in Synaptic. Your question reminded me that I've been meaning to rejoin boinc for some time now, so I went to Synaptic and installed two programs, boinc-manager and another (sorry, I've forgotten what it was and I've got Synaptic doing something else just now, so I can't check).

The installation added an entry in my menu under Utilities. Once I got it set up it started running nicely, even when I closed the manager window. When I restarted the computer this morning it began running again automatically.

So have a look at your list of running processes. You'll probably see Boinc running there quietly in the background. If you can't try reinstalling the two obvious programs in Synaptic.

i run einstein@home but i have ubuntu, anyway that u should be able to do some kind of shortcut to ~/myboincdir/boincmgr and that should do the trick.

i personally prefer to download binaries from official boinc site resp the project site than to use synaptic/adept, 'cause binaries from site are usually newer than those in repositories and even some projects have optimised version for rou CPU resp. project

happy data crunching :) i hope i've helped a bit
