I've had many wrangles with ubuntu64 in the past.

I never managed to get the version prior to dapper to install ever. This was using official CD's from shipit.

I had problems with burnt dapper cd's, it wasn't until I received the dapper cd from shipit that I managed to install that, but by that time I had given up on ubuntu and decided not to bother.

This weekend I decided to give it another go, slipped the dapper cd in, found there was a distro update, tried to update to edgy. I got some sort of filesystem or USB error upon update which made it so the whole system wouldn't boot aymore, not even in the "safe" mode.

So after wasting about a whole day of updates and reinstall and update I just gave up on that and burnt an edgy cd and installed. Then learning how to make the nvidia drivers wasn't so much of a pain but rather I would describe a "unique" learning experience.

I still have to fix that stupid splash screen bug. On a whole I am quite disappointed with the quality of the amd64 releases and I think the only reason why I have bothered is because I am stubborn and I just want things to work.

Welcome to the 64bit experience  .

Every install problem I've ever had has been solved by installing with the alternative CD as opposed to the Live CD.
