how much RAM is required to run Vista. Based on your experience, how much do you recommended?

thanks in advance.

It will supposedly run on 512 MB of RAM, but I wouldn't even think about trying it, from what I've been reading. If you drop another stick into your rig to raise that to 1GB, you should be okay.

A thing about Vista and RAM that I've read (don't know if it's true), is the more you have, the more it will use, as it loads a lot of stuff into unused RAM in order to speed up access times.

Note: I haven't used Vista at all, just relaying things I've read about it. Take all preceding comments with a grain of salt.

It'll run on 512MB in the same way that XP ran on 128MB.

1GB Vista is about 384MB XP

2GB Vista is about 768MB XP.

Again, only what I've heard and not personal experience.

I read somewhere that the RAM sweet-spot for Vista is about 4GB...like the RAM sweet-spot for XP was 1GB...

Based on this, you'll get roughly half the performance on Vista that you get on XP...granted, I think 1GB in XP is a bit high, for careful users, I haven't used Vista...I'd say 512MB will be pretty shoddy, though, as it's the absolute minimum it takes to install Vista, I believe...

LOLOLOL

It`ll run on 512mb as i`ve just had it running on 492mb 1.8Ghz pc for 4 or 5 days with a 64mb nvidia card(laugh now) and although i certainly did`nt get no aero effects or dvd maker it still actually run ok although it was using 300mb without me so much as moving a bloody mouse..

Bar that though it worked as fine with the basics as any xp i`ve had on here, albeit a bit slower.
Of course i`m just messing about and aint no Vista power user with their half dozen tabs, photoshop, and chess titans all open at once:lolflag:
In fact i aint a Windows user full stop nowadays (never really was mind you)...,Plus or course the fact i was curious as to what MIGHT have been with our own pc journey had things not turned out the way they did with Ubuntu:)

Why on earth would i want to spend the money to run Vista properly when these things run Ubuntu with beryl etc many times better just as they are.....for FREE.
AT least when i do buy expensive new pc`s this year i`ll know a whole lot more than i did at this time last year when i switched that very first one on and there certainly aint no Vista on the agenda now as was initially planned those 11 months ago

im considering upgrading my ram from 512mb to 1 or 1.5 gb, just cant decide what to get

if i get 1.5 then if i decide to run vista (its a possibility) then i wont have to worry about re-upgrading ram, but if i get 1gb then vista may not run.

on another note, what is so special about vista that requires so much ram?

Vista will run fine on 1GB. Don't sweat it.

yeah, i ran Vista pretty well on 512MB of RAM...1GB-2GB would be optimal, but you can still live with it with only 512MB

just upgraded to 1.5 my xp is running a LOT faster than when i had 512.

edit........ i love my laptop now.. it feels like i am running a whole new laptop! i really reccomend a ram upgrade to anyone looking for more performance from their PC because its really cheap nowadays and its effects are huge.

take care
