i installed ubuntu with the 386 kernel, then i installed the k7 kernel. now the update manager proposes to update both the 386 and the k7 kernel.
is this necessary, or is it sufficient to update only the kernel i'm using, which is the k7 one?
IF it is only necessary for me to update the k7 kernel, is it possible to tell the update manager to ignore the 386 kernel package?
or would it even be safe to remove the 386 kernel, without damaging the system?

I've removed the 386 kernel and had no problems.

Absolutely not necessary to keep the 386 kernel, although I do keep mine in case of emergencies.

I'm not sure how likely the scenario is of being able to boot one kernel but not the other is though.

Cheers,
