MBF w/ DOSBox

Ok, this might not be quite the right place to be asking this question, but I've nowhere else to turn.

I'm trying to run MBF (Marine's Best Friend, an old Doom source port) in DOSBox. However, upon loading either the doom2.wad or any custom wad, I receive slow performance with loud crackling sound. I've tried other similar source ports but always get the same result. :(

Other DOS games including Wolf3D run fine. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Ctrl+F12 can be used to increase processor speed.. eg. Doom2 works best with processor speed 16000.. (default is 3000)

and to slow it down Ctrl+F11

Does anyone have a guide for installing dos games in dosbox? I am a newbie to dos games and doxbox. I would like to get Doom for dosbox, but I don't know which one to get. How many Doom games are there that run in dos. Someone told me I need wad files. I don't know what they are or what to do with them, and what other files I need. That is why I am asking for a guide. Thanks.
