After a week of searching and scratching my head a lot I got my answer.
First I'm using the built in codec sound on an Abit NF7S motherboard.
Anyway, running Wine from the new 7.04 b4 live CD the terminal popped up direct sound not available, to go to the Winecfg and change the hardware acceleration Tab to "emulated" and IT WORKED!!!! I now have the lovely sound of FRAG!
