Let me remind everyone who is having trouble with Beryl on Ubuntu that Beryl is ALPHA software and is TOTALLY unstable! USE AT OWN RISK! If your computer manages to handle Beryl, well, good for you! Otherwise, if your computer goes under "meltdown mode" don't say we didnt warn ya.

Moderators, can I request this post be stickied and moved if needed? Thanks!

As an added disclaimer from the staff: If you decide to install Beryl, you should be aware that the software is still in its early stages, is under development and comes with the real risk of breaking your system or rendering it unusable.

Beryl is not for beginners. We realize that a lot of people see the effects and the eye candy and want to try it; we encourage and support that, and hope you enjoy it. However, be aware that it is not necessarily newbie-friendly, and your satisfaction with Beryl will be directly proportional to your expertise with Linux on the whole, and your patience for setting it up.

You should also be aware that Beryl is not an Ubuntu project, and questions about Beryl are better fielded in the Beryl forums (http://forum.beryl-project.org). If you're looking for a distro that uses Beryl by default, Sabayon linux (http:/http://www.sabayonlinux.org/) is a preferable choice to Ubuntu.

There is another thread on this topic (http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=349732) in the Absolute Beginners area.

Also, users who want to stay with Ubuntu and use Beryl without having to struggle quite as much might be interested in this... UBERYL , a distro based on ubuntu (http://pollolinux.blogia.com/) [ Translate this page (http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=es&u=http://pollolinux.blogia.com/&sa=X&oi=translate&resnum=7&ct=result&prev=/search%3Fq%3Duberyl%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26hs%3Dkoh) ] The original page is in Spanish...the translation might help a bit.
