I know its old news by now but I don't think when I read this that Ubuntu had announced its dropping of PowerPC support.

Basically we sit in a situation where this company has just released a processor that is dual core, 64-bit, faster than an Intel Core2 Duo and runs at lower watt per clock yet Ubuntu has followed Apple in their trend to leave PowerPC (an argumentatively superior architecture) in the dust.

Thoughts, questions, comments?

Ubuntu is really a desktop distro, and now there are no mainstream companies releasing desktop computers based around the PowerPC processor. I think Ubuntu could have continued supporting PowerPC for a while longer, but then their end of support has given birth to a community PowerPC desktop distro, so that's not so bad :-)

As long as they keep updating the PPC version of Dapper, it should be ok... It would be a very LTS, then...

They will keep putting security updates in place for Dapper, but only until its support lifetime runs out. There will be no non-critical bugfixes or new programs, though.

I'll just plug my new distro project, which has reached beta stage (hopefully I'll be able to release an ISO soon): Copland PPC (http://code.google.com/p/coplandppc/wiki/MainPage)
