reason I ask is default 386 kernel only sees 885MB not the full 1GB. I'm guessing this may be the reason I keep getting kicked out after 10 seconds...or maybe it's just a punkbuster issue not sure. I installed 686 kernel which say the full 1GB of memory but wireless doesn't work anymore, plus other issues so that's a no go.

Other issues such as what? Perhaps some of your physical memory is bad. I somewhat doubt its allocation.

ok yeah it's not the memory. I went back to the 386 kernel. It's that when I run glxgears I get 3200 fps which is fine only problem is it maxes out the CPU which it shouldn't do.

it probably is punkbuster.

....

I really dislike that program.
It ruined the whole q3 experience for me.

Before punkbuster, there were relatively few cheaters under the competive q3 gamers. We all played with heavily tweaked configurations, but it wasnt cheating. Certainly a good config doesnt made you a superstar, it just supported you in your gaming experience. Less detail makes it easier to see the enemies, rockets, etc.

When punkbuster entered the id-games, all of a sudden all common tweaking vars were considered 'cheating'. Playing with different network settings or with full detail is very hard, when you have played years with almost no detail.

Nobody was complaining before!!!

Even the number of known cheats and wallhacks tripled when punkbuster entered the scene. Sure there were cheats before, but after watching a demo you could easily see if a player was cheating or not. Now it seemed they were all making cheats for the id-engines, just to proove that punkbuster isnt cheat-free.

Thnx punkbuster for ruining such a great game.

I'll stop rambling now for something that happend 3 / 4 years ago :)
