nope, powershell wasn't finished in time for Vista so there's another thing they cut out...i even think it's still in Beta...but i did try out one of the betas a few months ago and i thought they were trying to make it a lot like bash...and they kind of succeded, but it's slow as crap

Powershell has nothing todo with bash - it's more akin to a Python shell than anything else.

It's smart how Msoft thought putting standard aliases like LS would entice the linux user.
-I think Powershell may one day become Msofts default shell replacing any ability to intance the typical DOS/Win32/16 way. , it will probably be another security layer to windows. With any luck Vienna will be entirely .net3+ based (ie WPF and such) and the win32 app will be a thing of the past - needing higher privledges to run, if a user wishes to run such an app on a vienna machine.

Power Shell is available as a download (beta) for both XP and Vista, and from what I've read is pretty solid. You have to install .NET for it to work, leaving me serious qualms about trying it.

But would that make switchers to Linux feel that Linux copies Windows?

never thought of that - some people would probably think that - oh look llinux is just like Powershell i can type LS !
I think Linux will have to 'become' more like the recent changes in Windows. I have a feeling alot of sitrubuted software will be .net software. Interestingly enough a compiled .net program should be able to run on all platforms that have .net (sadly only msoft at the moment) just like a Java program. So .net is more of a direct Sun java competitor rather than Linux.
Did you know you can program your own shell, inheriting from System.Automation and system.Powershell - I doubt anyone could be bother doing so, but it would be intersting to see a Python .net shell.

I can run and develop .NET apps on Ubuntu Linux using mono packages but it doesn't seem very stable. I made a simple window, in C#, with a rich text box area and it kept crashing randomly :(
The only reason I was messing with the .NET on Linux was because the software engineering 2 project this semester will be written in C#, and I am trying to understand C#. (I am on the implementation team.)
