This Bugzilla entry (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=145427) contains a really nice-looking patch (http://www.jamiemcc.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Nautilus_pathbar.png) for Nautilus. Could Nautilus with this patch applied be put on the backports repo? That would be so great.

Wow, I wish I would have seen this before. It sounds like a nice patch, but it was made for Nautilus 2.8.1
Ubuntu doesn't use 2.8.1 anymore, it uses 2.10 in hoary, and 2.11 in breezy. I don't think it would work with the newer version.
