View Full Version : Installing multiple versions of the same game...

I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to install multiple versions of the same game via Wine.

My situation is as follows:

I'm ordering some new SATA drives and when I get them I'm dropping them in what is now my newer Winbox. After dropping them in I plan on installing Xubuntu x64 and getting rid of Windows once and for all.

Most (ok, all) of the games I play run fine in Wine. However, there's a particular game I play and at the LANs I frequent this game is played quite heavily. The game is Warcraft III (I know, eesh to Blizzard, but I'm addicted to DOTA). Since I own the game and play on Battlenet my version is always up-to-date (1.21). But all my friends, for reasons undisclosed, use version 1.18. Their version of the game is run in a non-standard way and as such doesn't work with Wine.

I was wondering if I could somehow have version 1.18 and 1.21 installed.

I did find a site detailing how to run multiple versions (http://warcraft3.filefront.com/info/RMVoWar3) but it relies on batch files. As far as I know Wine doesn't run batch files (least when I try to). Should I just try and perform the same actions using shell scripts?

Any help would be appreciated.
