Bob,
your translation is not compatible with standard .po files.
A nice howto is here: http://codex.xwd.jp/index.php/Localizing_WordPress
If in doubt, you can use poEdit : (apt-get install poedit) but as it is very simple, you can go with a normal editor..

I can translate on Russian.
But I have two questions:
Which file I'm should send for you: .pot or .po (and what different between it)?
Which codepage (locales) I'm should use: koi8-r, utf-8 or iso-8859-5?

Then, type this command:
sudo cp bum.mo /usr/share/locale/ru/LC_MESSAGES/bum.mo

You are kindly request to ADD new entries not to MODIFY existing ones. You have now completely messed up that page !!!
Why you have removed daemons from gdm, fnfxd,etc??? Those are working!
Further to this, the new proposed tect is to be a friendly-human text.
i.e.: you put for zope "Python Based Web Application Server"... A common user is not meant to know what is "Pyhton", what is an "application server"!!
We need to let the description be as friendly as possibile (look at the other ones).
Are you able to put things back is order, or should I ask to ubuntu people to restore a backup of the page???

sir,
please compare version 10 and 14
gdm, fnfxd and etc daemon descriptions are not changed.
i just only add some space.
like this:
|| gdm ||
i made it like this:
|| gdm ||
because this version is easy to edit and understandable. (please examine code)
i wrote:
Python Based Web Application Server
the old one is:
Open Source Web Application Server
everyone knows it is open source, and if anyone knows what is "Web Application Server",
in my opinion he/she may know also python.

Of course I was speaking about LAST version (#14). That is where you susbstituded gdm and fnfxd with *NONE* !!. Now things are back in place. You can continue editing but please... carefully.
You can never say "everyone knows". Don't be so sure. Ubuntu is trying to make a "linux for human beings" and not for "computer experts".

The only way for BUM to detect if the service is started is to check its running dameon. In this way you will have a "green" or "red" light, meaning the service is up or down. If there is a "slash", it means that the service has no daemon. If there is question mark "?", it means that BUM has found a service which is not in its list.
Please refer to documentation at http://www.marzocca.net/bumdocs.html
Concerning gdm, this is an extract from the /etc/init.d/gdm file:
# To start gdm even if it is not the default display manager, change
# HEED_DEFAULT_DISPLAY_MANAGER to "false."
HEED_DEFAULT_DISPLAY_MANAGER=true
DEFAULT_DISPLAY_MANAGER_FILE=/etc/X11/default-display-manager
PATH=/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin
DAEMON=/usr/bin/gdm
PIDFILE=/var/run/gdm.pid
From these few lines you can verify that gdm runs a daemon named gdm with its own pid in /var/run/gdm.pid
More on this: maybe this is not the right place to discuss this matter.

You are right,
but in fact,
gdm cannot be related with gdm!
if there is such a thing,
a multithreaded service can be related with its 60 instances!
pismikrop@mikropyuvasi:~$ ps -A | grep apache2
10916 ? 00:00:00 apache2

As I said, this is not the right place for this discussion.
I will try to put discussion back to BUM. Bum checks that gdm is running and allows start/stop of the service thru its daemon that is gdm with its proper pid.
The same for apache/apache2/httpd. If you need to stop apache, just right-click on BUM list and click Stop Service. This is done by first detecting if the daemon is running, if yes, BUM issues a '/etc/init.d/servicename stop.
If there is no daemon running (or if BUM doesn't know the daemon name) this cannot be done.

This is not a problem.
The script can handle all of them.
BUM use two information: the script name and the daemon (one or more ) name.
With the daemon's name it test if the daemon is started or not to operate on it with the script that handle one/multi instances of the daemon.
