My little testimonial:

I'm a little new to linux (about 1 year) and have tried SuSE, Debian, RedHat, Mandrake, Gentoo, along with live cd's of apodio, slax, and knoppix. In the beginning of my tour de distro's, I stuck with SuSE as it was pretty easy to get going and setup for the most part. What I didn't like were the load times of all the OS's and the extra packages most people will never use coupled with poor package installation for non-linux guru's. The live cd's were nice, but nothing permanent on a live cd (as far as I know). Now don't get me wrong here, there are some good things to say about SuSE and Debian etc..., but just not enough for me to write about. Gentoo was just insane on the installation!! I gave up and decided to try out Ubuntu. I though the ubuntu website was kind of corny with the people in a circle holding hands, but now that I've installed it and noticed the following,

1. Very easy installation and short installation times
2. Very short boot times
3. Extremely easy to install packages post installation of base ubuntu system
4. Support for literally anything
5. Friendly and quick responses in the user forums

...i can see why. I think people ("humans" as Ubuntu refers to them) will flock to this distribution when migration from windows os's happens. This is one rock solid OS and has converted me from SuSE Linux.

Thank you Ubuntu folks !!!

The most impressing for me was that Suspend to RAM worked out of the box. I broke my fingers to get it running under debian with kernel 2.6.8, but never succeeded completly (sound and 3D functionality were gone on wake up).

Welcome to the communuty TRINIDADUBUNTU. That's great to hear. TBH the circle of friends seems a bit "corny" Sesame Street-ish to me too ;-) The old one was better IMO but was objectionable to some people so it's Sesame Sreet for the time being anyway. I suspect some people might be attracted by it and the "human" message while others might well turn away because of it! That's the way of things I suppose :-k

things i like about ubuntu that windows doesnt have:

installs drivers for me (in windows since my hardware is old its hard to find the drivers for them and i have to do it myself)
formats and partitions your drive for you (in windows you had to go to dos using a floppy and format from there and if you wanted to partition then youd have to find a rare free program or buy a program)
Installation is easy, much more easier then windows even though both are easy to install, just Ubuntu hasnt gave me any problems like windows likes to
Ubuntu knows how to handle ram better then Windows, it doesnt hog ram and it doesnt hog processing speed, programs on here dont leave behind stuff in the ram so much when closed and then add on when reopened
theres alot of freedom with making your desktop the way you like, infact theres alot of freedom for everything
updating files is easier done then said xP in windows when you need security patches you would have to sometimes install one at a time and keep rebooting alot, this indeed was a hassle and why i dreaded refromatting
Ubuntu comes with games that you would have to pay for if you were using Windows or go to yahoo or msn or some site like that
its secure, stable, and easy to navigate through, its easy on my video card too, even as it is gnome, easy on all my hardware really, i havent had any problems crashing/freezing yet
it doesnt cause problems to where you have to reformat often
last but not least most programs are free, open source, and great to use!
