Hi
Totem has an option to turn on nvidia tv-out, but it's grayed out. How
do I enable this?

Very sorry for the late reply.

You need to install the package: “nvtv”.

Thanks for replying. I already have nvtv installed and nvtvd up and
running. The option is still grayed out though :-(
I can however get tv-out working by using nvtv, but it's a bit of a pain.

Hi Søren...

What's your combination of VGA and Monitor? Why you ask and how is this
relevant to your problem? Simply, I have an MSI FX5700 (VTD256) and
this card can out-put through the TV-Out *only* if I have a digital LCD
connected to it and *no* analog (normal/old) monitors attached because
it have only one DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) which is used either
for Analog monitor/LCD or TV-Out. Your card may have the same
specification which explain the problem.

Hi Ziyad
Thanks for taking the time to help me.
I have an analog LCD screen connected to a geforce2 card that only
supports analog output. I can get TV-OUT working through nvtv, but to
get a good output on my (PAL) tv, I need to change my desktop resultion
to 800x600. So tv-out works just fine, it's just a bit annoying the way
it works.
I would like to, instead of getting the full desktop send to the tv,
only send the output from totem to the tv (I only use tv-out for movies).

Hi Søren...

Okay, Read the file “/usr/share/doc/nvidia-glx/README.gz” and especially
“Appendix J”. If that didn't help you, just repost here again and I (or
anyone else) will try to help. (This will involve modifying
“/etc/X11/xorg.conf”.)

Sorry, but I couldn't help you more because I don't have any TV near me,
and my VGA card is connected to an analog LCD monitor which prevent me
from using the TV-Out. If you face any problem or need any query just
ask again. (I believe it's not that difficult to fix your problem.)

Well, I don't. I haven't really had time to look into it, but it seems
to me that the problem is due to the totem packages not supporting
nvidia tv-out.

I can get tv-out to work just fine for the entire desktop, but I only
what tv-out for totem :-(

Søren, as a last resort, you could edit "~/.gnome2/totem_config" and
find the lines that reads:
# video driver to use
# string, default: auto
and change them to:
# video driver to use
# string, default: auto
video.driver:xshm

Be warned that it'll be *very* slow (especially when in full screen
mode) because no VGA hardware acceleration will be utilized at all.
