I got out of the kiosk screen that was on it and was messing around the desktop

The Windows Search, even if it looks pretty familiar to Mac OS X is a better search system than XP. Just hit the Windows key and search. Pretty useful.

The desktops gadgets, also look pretty familiar to an OS X feature called widgets are also useful. The thing I wonder though is how can people say that one operating system copied another.. people have to get ideas from somewhere.. Ubuntu has Desktop applets, Vista has gadgets, OS X has widgets but they are all essentially the same thing.

Other minor things like the keystroke and search.. it is just an efficient feature. Operating systems are getting closer and closer to looking and acting alike apart from the stuff under the hood so you can't say they copied our search feature or our 3D chess game and stuff like that.

Now stopping my rant, the search and the gadgets were cool but the only other I tried is opening Internet Explorer. I opened it and it apparently did not have the internet hooked up in the store so I told it to stop. Then told it to close. Then told it to close. Then told it to close. Then hit Ctrl-Alt-Del. Then killed IE process. Then got an error encountered screen.

Not a very good indication to me if the first time I try Vista it locks up.

Vista is still considered by many to be beta-ware, but then again does Microsoft ever churn out a version of windows that doesn't require tons of patching and updating, followed by patching the updates?

Yeah, because ubuntu doesn't need any updates!

Oh, wait...

Look at any Microsoft OS release, there is always wave after wave of fixes and patches implemented for months to fix dumb problems that they should have worked out in Beta.

By 'keystroke and search', do you mean something like alt-F3 search, like Ubuntu has when you install Beagle (and/or whatever the equivalent key combo for OS X & spotlight is)?Or is it something even more useful?

I haven't tried Vista yet, as I don't feel like i should be paying for an OS. I tried the Beta, but it wouldn't install in vmware for some reason.

I encountered many problems upgrading from Dapper to Edgy. Didn't matter whether it was a clean install from CD or using the Update Manager, there were many problems. The problem with Ubuntu/Linux is that if you want the most up-to-date software you have to upgrade. Due to all the problems I had with Edgy I finally gave up and went back to Windows.

Feisty Fawn might be better than Edgy. I didn't have too many problems with it but a bunch of people have had complaints.
