I have to agree with this article, I use to run Vista in Vmware with 256 mem and it ran slow but no slower than normal XP with 256. :guitar:

Hehe, 10 hours and no posts. I guess the community simply doesn't like myth being busted, especially Windows myths ;)

Good point. Also, one thing that that has never really really sat right with me is why the
forum moderators have to post "Discuss the Windows operating system here. Please do not use this as a bashing area."

Shut up I'll kill you.. Bash!! Bash!!

Lol, kidding. I don't know, just thought it might be interesting to some since the UK got its launch and it has received full TV documentaries andprograms on it. Also, I looked at the forum to post in, but must have missed Windows out of the 400 forums.

Remind me never to post Windows material again.

Read the replies to the myth busting article, and you will find a few of the busted myths glued back together.

To be honest, I'd never even heard most of those 'myths' before reading the article. And some of them are just not a big deal. Others aren't that well 'busted' either.

I haven't been following the whole Vista movement.

I just looked at some screen shots, read a few articles and I didn't like what I saw that much.

In term of "eye-candy", nothing a little AIGLX and GDesklets can't do it. Even though I don't use either AIGLX and GDesklets, I believe that for those who care about the looks and all the transparency stuff, they can do a very good job.

Now, the only thing i had heard has the hardware needed to run Vista.

Unfortunately, I hadn't had the opportunity to run a copy of Vista, so I don't know how true that idea is.

:D

Maybe Linux users don't care about Windows...

Umm... Considering the endless and useless flaming of Vista, I think they do.

Myths? No, not really. The article isn't that good.
I haven't learnt anything new from the article anyway.

Myth #4: The only thing new about Vista is the eye candy

The search capabilities have been greatly expanded, so that you can easily find documents, programs, and other objects, and even run applications, from a single box in the Start menu.

New productivity applications are built into Vista, including a calendaring/task list program called Windows Calendar

Wow, better search capabilities and a calendaring program!!!1 no way! this has to be a first - I'm going to blow $1000 or so nzd to get vista on every computer in my house! [/sarcasm]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Vista is worth spending money on" - Try telling me that isn't a myth.

Many of us linux users got burned by windows one way or the other. Some never liked the Microsoft because or the business practices.

Most of the bashers are new to linux and are used to bashing or they are forced to use it everyday.

My XP rocks, I switched to linux because Vista is not what I want. It lacks the things I want and forces too much other things.

If Ubuntu starts forcing things I'll switch again.

I moved to Linux mainly because XP sucked... THEN I read about their dodgy business practices. I can't feel any restrictions with Ubuntu, probably because I don't really use the computer much; However I love to see alternatives to Windows popping up. Learning about alternatives is an important part of life for me, it also applies to my education (I'm dropping out of high school to go on a CS course and I'm only 16 :) )

i agree with most of theose myths but number 7 on that list is not a myth running the release candidates and current issues idicate there are compatibilty issue with current applications and hardware. these are even reported in two of the top pc magazines that are normally pro widows the magazines are maxium pc and pc world. they both artyickle recomending not to upgradeto vista due to the issues in myth 7 which sorry to say have been confirmed and not a myth. and part of the issue with application and hardware is not copmpatibilty but vista'a content protection sytem downgrading the device or application performance or even disabling it due to ms to date has yet to sign a driver or approve an application not of thier own as being able to be secure enough to be fully allowed by this new system that obvisously take the wjole drm thing way to the extreme which why ithe media is full of various reports of lawa suits against ms andconsumer against manufactures are starting to pop up. classic example is ms refusal to officialy sign the vista drivers for both nvidia and ati cards due to niether company will give up using thier unified driver structure which is why atnm all those driver are stuck in beta

Maybe Linux users don't care about Windows...

It seems like (to me, anyway) that the longer you go using Linux as your sole OS, the less you care about what other people use on THEIR computers.

I've been using Ubuntu probably for around 9 months now. Maybe a bit more. It now feels like I've always been using Ubuntu, though I haven't. Everything has become second nature.

When i first began using Ubuntu, I was always trying to convert others to Linux because it's such a badass OS and I felt others were missing out like I was. At this point, it really doesn't matter what other people use. 9 months ago, if I heard about the shortcomings of Vista, I'd laugh my *** off. These days, I hear about constant hacks into and fuckups of Vista and it just makes one corner of my mouth rise up. I'm sure in another 9 months, if I hear the same news, I will have a deadpan expression on my face.

After time, the 'other OS' just doesn't even exist.

That's called living in your own little world :P

It's good to be aware of what other technologies including operating systems are brewing in our corporate world. I can write paragraph upon paragraph on this but I think you already know the reasons why.
