Okay, I'm sitting here talking with a friend about everything and anything, and we got on the topic of a new gaming idea he thought of.
Networked gaming environment . . .with an intensely huge environment. Think GTA San Andreas only universally usable . . .your character could play hockey, chess, go on a mythical quest, etc . . .based on where he/she is in the map . . .say you wanted to play Space Invaders . . .go to the local arcade! Want to play baseball? Go to the stadium! A COMPLETELY interactive Sims, almost . . .I understand how intense the server space and processors would have to be to host this, but with the breakthroughs in processing and the standard disc space PCs have now, couldn't most of it, minus the map (which would be one GIGANTIC piece of software) . . .let's here some feedback.

This I think has been on the minds of some game developers.. however.. I have the following questions..

What brings people to this world? If I want to play football, what stops my from playing Madden 07 and instead play this game? Same goes for Asteroids or whatever else. Those games would have to be very good to get users who just want to play football to go through another interface of another game to do that....

I think this type of thing has to have an overlying structure... I think WOW could be a great foundation for this sort of thing. Implement large bar or 'local pub' type locations were users could go and essentially join a chat-room. You could easily implement an arcade option with a lot of classic games...

I think you would start by adding tons of mini-games to a game already in place.. like WOW...and chat-room type areas... and work your way from there.

second life?

I was about to say the same thing.

What I would be interested in is a more "metaverse"-like (a la Snowcrash) Second Life which is oriented towards coding and content generation in an abstract environment as opposed to the vaguely earth-like one SL has right now. Basically just SL for people who don't want to spend all day accessorizing their avatar.

Essentially, what I have in mind is buying game rights, or doing open source versions, and integrating those games into the environment (Madden 07 can be played at the local stadium, Space Invaders at the arcade, etc.) . . .Second Life with a little more to the world.

Think big, not in terms of area, but in terms of interaction. Maybe this is just a hypothetical, reserved for ten years from now, but let's talk hardware. Think Wii . . .the nunchuck was a fantastic start in the way of interface design, and I think everyone else has it on their minds now too. A little more advancement in that area and it'll become mainstream technology, replacing the mouse, and hopefully the physical keyboard in the future. And HUDs have been around for ages and ages . . .why not utilize that as a part of the interface? Soon . . .so soon. ~LOL~ I can't wait for the change. That's when computers will jump into a whole new era of operating! Complete interaction is only a few steps away . . .think Matrix, minus the brain plug (It's just creepy).

i think that better than that woud be to make a 'videogame player'.if there are movie players and music players, why not a videogame player? in a videogame player you woud play any game by pushing simple buttons, without having to go any where.this videogame player woud run all games that are played in a computer.

what would make a game like that really good is if it had online multiplayer support. like instead of just going to the stadium to play madden, you and your friends could go. this would make it a lot more like second sight, but it would be more focussed on games instead of chat or whatever.

This is what I'm getting at . . .eventually I envision your computer, the internet, games, and communications to be in one single, completely interactive environment.

That's basically what I'm getting at, except that there's no anarchy in the world. ~LOL~
