Well I think you answer your own question, if you want a bigger list try going to debian's page and click on Debian's packages, you'll find there more package for use with ubuntu... and if you want a complete list of repo's then go here (http://www.apt-get.org/main/) and search for something in particular.

I am looking for something like this

A nice list of all the packages in are repository like
http://packages.ubuntu.com/hoary/main/

The only way I can think to do this is to use synaptic and only comment in the main pacakges ... but would much rather see it on a nice website somewhere ... so as to help with choices etc

Thanks

Now I get you... sorry if I didn't before. I guess that to find something like that will be pretty difficult, although you can search for some project doing what you want here (http://sourceforge.net/index.php) but I don't think you'll find something.

You can ofcourse comment the repos as you said, but synaptic has a very good searching tool, by name, or by name and description, etc. And there's the terminal way "apt-cache".

Well that's all I know, hope you find something that fits your needs.
