I am trying to get out of the Microsoft world and into the Linux world but I am having difficulties. I have just installed Ubuntu 6.10 and the installation went well, no errors, no hang ups. When I log in and go to click on any application my pc locks up and then I have to do a hard boot.I am running a 800 mhz pentium III with an intel I440GX chipset I have read some forums on soft lockup on cpu #0, and about the kill switch and about ipw3945. I am soooo new to Linux but I really want to try it out and get away from microsoft but I am quite frustrated at this point. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

Maybe try 6.06.1 LTS version.
