Creating My Own Repository

I would like to know what steps are involved in creating my own repository. Also, I know how to compile from source, but how do I compile packages for use by other users (these would obviously be the packages I would include in my repository).

Thanks a bunch! I plan on running Linux exclusively in my future household. This will save me a lot of time and bandwidth.

This would be great if you combined it with building your own DEBs. I find that the repos often have older versions of programs than I want. Additionally, sometimes there's a program I want to put on multiple computers that requires me to build it from source.
