Hi,

I used to run linux on a seperate partition, but I game a lot, and unfortunately I could never get my ATI card to work, at all, on any distro. I might get back into some linux again, and I'm going to use Ubuntu (was my distro of choice before), but If I'm going to run into the same problems again, I might just stick with Windows. Is there a reliable way to get ATI cards working yet? If you've done it, please, tell me how.

Also, I ask right now that you don't tell me to go out and buy an NVIDIA cards.. I dislike their products and don't need to spend money on a new video card right now.

With this guide, your ati-drivers will work in no time.

Hi VincentP it's me again.

The above tip is the best U are going to get, and don't waste anytime whatsoever with any of the how-to-ati out there, this one rocks and both on the 2d and 3d level.

I have a x700 and I am playing both Army Ops and ET on it, as mentioned earlier. With smooooothe graphics.

I'll third this. I'm happily playing Half Life 2 on an ATI 9200SE. Well, maybe not as happily as I might, but that's my wallet's fault, not Ubuntu's.

Yeah if you like 3D stuff ATI works pretty good in Ubuntu(the 2D drivers blow to the point that I got a Nvidia card recently to do compositing).

The question is: will your games run in Linux?
