Hey all, I have a amdk6 400, with 128 ram, I want to install an OS on it that can serve but also have
a window manager, any ideas for this slow machine?

Arch Linux running Fluxbox. :P

+1, but with Openbox. ;)
Edit: OOPS, scratch that. Arch needs an i686 and I don't think it will do a K-6 out of the box. I couldn't get it to run on a K6-2+ 550. I think LowArch (http://lowarch.linuxophic.org/) will handle it, though. It's the same idea, just a variation. :D

Use the Alternate Install CD for Edgy, install the command line version, then do sudo aptitude install xorg fluxbox eterm
If you decide you don't like Fluxbox (which I can't imagine), you could go for IceWM or FVWM instead.

Damn Small Linux is great for old machines, uses fluxbox too

there are a lot of pretty fast wms: openbox, fluxbox, icewm, etc. (e17 is actually pretty fast and not particularly heavy.) i, myself, prefer openbox. it starts off cleaner than the others and, with things like feh, obmenu and pypanel, is easily built up to be extremely functional.

Xubuntu will work on that.
DSL would be a good choice if you want something faster - it has a fantastic Flux setup and is easy to use and fun to play around with.
