How do i attach a file to my posts?

What is the correct method of attaching something to a post? I recently tried to attach a text file to a post but it didn't show up. I assumed that you clicked on "Manage Attachments" and browse to your file, but that didn't seem to work. Is there something else i need to do?

you click on "Manage Attachments" and browse to your file then press the UPLOAD button near the bottom border of the box the browse button are in

Thx. I thought that is what I did, but nothing showed as an attachment to my post. When reading a post, how can you tell if it has an attachment?
