Hey guys!
Since it has been a long time since I have released anything I thought I would share a mockup of the upcoming Hive Technology Preview release.
This is just a quick mockup I made earlier, as you may have heard, I have implemented a theme system. Additonally I have also implemeted a plugin system. Neither the plugin system nor the theme system are ready for 3rd party themes, but I am going to release a preview release in the next few weeks so you can atleast get an idea how it works.

As you can see I added a right hand navigational menu with a few things on it, there will be a ton more stuff on it once completed but I wanted to give you an idea how it will look. The part that says Hello Travis and admin area will most likely get moved there too. I am thinking of having the sidebar display on all of module pages too, and not just the main menu.
You may notice the menu bars on the main page are all different sizes, I am going to try to create a standard size and see how that looks, so it looks a little bit more organized.
Please leave some suggestions and feel free to ask questions!

Just 2 ideas I've (badly) implemented on my hive installation :
- All users should'nt have access to the admin area. I remember seeing on a post that this issue was already known and that you were thinking on doing something about it (but it seems to be quite some work ; so for my part, i've just hidden the admin menu).
- A simpler one : All the images/icons used (or at least the ones from the main menu) should get some Tango love. I've replaced all af them with images from the default ubuntu theme. But one other theme could be used.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I can whip up something to disable access to the admin area for certain users. As for icons, each plugin get's it's own icon, they are not included in the themes. Maybe there could be icon packs, and make a tango one.

As for icons, it's just a minor suggestion. I think it's not hard to guess where they are located and how to change them.
On the admin area side, I think this is more of a real concern for some users. I've tried to figure out by myself a simple way to manage users and the admin area, but I'm the first to admit it's quite complicated to get it in shape. Another suggestion that would be a great improvement in Hive is to have a central Admin area, instead of each subproject of Hive having its own. That would probably go well with the user rights management I was just talking about (but it would also go well with the "complicated ways to do it" I was just talking about :) )
Some times ago, I thought about doing something about all that User management and Admin area, but I gave up thinking that by the time I found a way to do it, Hive would have it already implemented. Maybe I can take a look back at it ?!

The central admin idea might be workable.
Basically Admin areas would be stored in the Admin folder, anything inside that folder can't be accessed by a standard user. Every user will still share the same bookmarks, music, downloads etc. That is just going to have to stay that way unless people want to use 2 mysql databases (which I have thought about doing, but it didn't seem practical.)
User mangement is something I am going to work on soon. There will be two types of users, Administrators and Users, Administrators can do everything. Users can do everything accept change settings for plugins. I will also be making the users easier to mange. I am still going to use apache http authentications as it makes sure everything is well protected versus adding a php code to every file to include authentication which still wouldn't stop some stuff.
