Good:
openSUSE 10.2 Live DVD (http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/10.2/iso/dvd/openSUSE-10.2-GM-LiveDVD.iso)

SUSE's menu (in KDE) is worth trying out, it's a bit strange as it's a mixture of mouseover and clicking.

The Live DVD allows you to boot into either GNOME or KDE.

Once booted it's very fast considering it's only Live.

Note: You cannot install openSUSE from the Live DVD.

The good:

The bad:

Suse
Linspire

The ugly:
Fedora
Freespire (i wish it was better)

the best:

KNOPPIX
Helix
Quantum (DVD)
Xplora (DVD)
Sabayon
Aquamorph
Wolvix Hunter
Ubuntu
Dreamlinux
dyne:bolic

The good

Berry Linux
Kinneret

The bad and ugly all rolled up into one big ball of useless waste (notice the humor in the exaggerated drama)

SimplyMepis = SimplyUseless
PCLinuxOS = never trust a distro that sounds like "***** LinuxOS"

and remember what Cicero said.

of course I have left a ton off the list....it's 4:49 am and I haven't slept all night so don't expect a lot form me right now

DragonflyBSD is actually a LiveCD with a pretty decent installer. Also DragonflyBSD is quite a departure from FreeBSD so I wouldn't say it is to FreeBSD what Knoppix is to Debian, if that is what you meant.

Also I'm curious, what is it that Cicero said?

:)

That is what I meant....

Cicero said that in humor this is a bit of seriousness,....not his exact words but you get the idea.

Good:

Dynebolic
Knoppix
PCLinuxOS
Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu
SimplyMepis
Austrumi
Puppy Linux

Bad:

Games Knoppix
Snappix
Mandriva One
DSL (okay, it's good for light machines, but it's horrible to use!)

Ugly:

Syllable
ReactOS
Gentoo Linux 2006.1 Live
Looking Glass 3D Live
Sabayon (every distro released last year can detect my ATI card and use it automatically - so why does the latest Sabayon crash? Nice KDE though.)

I don't think I can remember all, but let's see...

The Good
Gparted (lol - couldn't live without it)
(K)(X)(El)(Edu)Ubuntu
Elive Revolution (apart from the support issue, but it's a great distro)
Puppy
SymphonyOS (for a new distro, at least)
Kanotix

The Bad
GoblinX
ZenLive
PCLinuxOS
Freespire (I think it's a live cd, correct me if I'm wrong)
SimplyMepis
dyne:bolic

The Ugly
MyahOS
Berry Linux
Dreamlinux (crashed)
Knoppix
Belenix
Helix

Am yet to try:
CentOS
Mint

Mandriva One

Looks good and installed easily, but access to packages severely limited.

Freespire

Promising, but needs more polish.

DreamLinux MMGL Edition

This is still a beta version, but I could not change screen reslution using 915resolution, as I have been able to do with every other distro that I've tried. The installer is not very intuitive and even though it offers several different file systems, if you don't choose reiserfs, the install fails.

Ubuntu Edgy Eft

My system of choice. It simply works and works well, except for my Logitech Quick Cam Pro, which worked in Dapper and also works in Feisty.

Roger
