"Can anyone suggest what to do if I wish to CREATE podcasts FOR A WEBSITE in Ubuntu especially in creating XML files?

Well audacity is a pretty decent program for recording your podcast.

I agree with Insomniac; the best recording software available is Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/). To create the RSS/XML file, you may want to check out FeedBurner (http://feedburner.com).

Jokosher (http://www.jokosher.org/) is a very promising upcoming program for audio recording and editing. Its currently only in version 0.2 but hopefully 1.0 should be in Feisty.

Check out Sourceforge for "podcast" - the last time I looked, there were a couple of programs available for creating your podcast's XML feed.
