If you use irc then you may want to look at this page https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FixDCCExploit. If you make the changes that it suggests then it could save you some trouble in the long run.

IRC is short for Internet Relay Chat. If you have never used IRC before then I would recommend starting with Xchat. Xchat has a nice easy to use grpahical interface.

Please be sure to change the default port from 6667 to 8001. See the previous posts for more information on this.

I seem to be having trouble connecting to the freenode.net
IRC Server: freenode.net
Ports: 8001
Any suggestions?

Not sure if it will help you or not (I don't know the port number), but try changing the server to irc.freenode.net.

Thanks for the heads up, etank. Although i hadn't had it happen yet, im sure it was in my near destiny.
