Installing dream chess... need a c compiler?

I'm trying to install dream chess and it said: configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH

What c compiler should I get and how do I download it? From the net or the package manager... isn't there one on the cd I could use anyway?

Try
sudo aptitude install build-essential

and then try configuring again.
