Hello folks,

So far, I have mostly been reading the forums, gleaned loads of info from here.

One really simple question for all you WoW'ers out there, that use Beryl, there must be a few of you!

I can run start WoW with Beryl running, but frame rates are obviously not great. Do others turn off Beryl? (If so, HOW do you do that?)

I've read about starting WoW with a script, to run in it's own X window. Would this solve my problems?

I don't play WoW, but I play Warcraft 3 often, and it does not work well while beryl is running at all. what I do is use a script to kill beryl launch warcraft 3 and then restart beryl when I'm finished. then all you have to do is create a desktop launcher and you can do it all in 1 click.

I haven't tried running a game without an active X session since mandrake 8.something, and can't remember the command to do it, but I think it should be possible with Ubuntu.

Best thing is to try the script and know how to remove if it doesn't work I suppose.

I cant run wow and beryl at the same time, It wont go fullscreen for some reason. Its the same problem I have with mythtv. For some reason doom3 runs just fine on beryl though. I dont "turn off" beryl, I just go to the red gem, and change the window manager off of beryl. Its about half a second of extra effort, so its no big deal.

As said...you don't have to completely turn off Beryl.

What I do is:
1.Click the Beryl Diamond thingo
2.Click "Select Window Manager"
3.Click "Metacity (Gnome Desktop Manager)" -The screen will flicker a tad as the window managers change.
4.Play the Game
5.Do steps 1-3 again to activate Beryl again.

It's not too much of a fuss for me.

That is exactly the kind of simple instruction that I was looking for! Viperknight; thank you for taking the time to type that!

I did figure it out myself after posting, but glad to see an answer!

I must say, I know utterly love my Edgy install. One last thing to do, and that is to get my capture working in either OSS or ALSA.

Playback is great.... I just can't record, which means no teamspeak or vent :(
