the last time i tried, i completely screwed it up and swore i would never try again. (famous last words.) anyway, i'm up for it again. i want to be able to add another distro to my existing ubuntu (edgy) one. if you know of something tailored for ****in' morons, that would be ideal.

:-\"The real question is:
To dual boot?
or to
Emulate?

I just set up my dual boot yesterday using the ubuntu liveCD and a windows install disk. I installed 64 bit versions of windows and ubuntu, but the installation should be similar for 32 bit versions.
I liked:
http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,128136-c,linux/article.html
for the general theory of dual booting. I ended up putting my personal data on a separate partition (formatted to ext3) from my operating systems. I am hoping to use the fs-driver (http://www.fs-driver.org/index.html) tool to enable windows to read from the data partition.
My experience in brief:

Good luck!

well, hooty-hoo! looks like i answered my own question - http://knowledge76.com/index.php/Windows_-_Add_MS_Windows_to_Your_System76_Machine
i didn't think emulation was the way to go, rav. i'm thinking about dual-booting with one of the more difficult distros to kind of force myself to learn more (i won't bother unless i'm forced).
thanks for the responses, you guys.

Weird, something happend to the link I posted. I edited it so try again or go straight to http://gag.sourceforge.net/
Warning though, I have had a issue with gag on my desktop that uses XFS, I dont think it likes XFS just yet. Works fine on my laptop though that is winxp & bsd.

oh, hilarious! i thought you were joking around telling me to do a search.
after comparing the speed of sabayon to ubuntu, last night, i decided to go sabayon all the way. i needed to stir it up a little, anyway.

Thing is you can immediately feel the difference, it's not one of those maybe things. Almost like resting your elbow on the warp drive button.
I installed ubuntu again a few days ago and it felt dog slow, needles to say i have not visited that partition again.

yeah, definitely! i'm liking it a lot. i was in the mood for something new and i'm definitely more a kde person, so it makes sense to use a kde centric distro. i like gnome and think it's better in some ways, but kde just suits me more. also, the only reason i ever tried linux in the first place was in the pursuit of more speed.
